Gibson goes over 'Edge' Like its hero, Boston police detective Tom Craven (Mel Gibson), the elaborate revenge fantasy "Edge of Darkness" is methodical and workmanlike. After about five minutes of mourning for his dead daughter, Emma (Bojana Novakovic), Craven gets down to business, contacting her cell-phone contacts, one by one. Soon he has unearthed a vast conspiracy involving Emma's defense-contractor employer (Danny Huston), a U.S. senator (Damian Young) and assorted goons. Craven goes after each of them with single-minded focus. The more he digs, the less mystery remains, until the movie is less thriller than foregone conclusion. The DVD and Blu-ray (Warner, $29-$36) include additional scenes.

GAME
Battle monsters on DSi The first exclusive title in stores for the Nintendo DSi, "Foto Showdown" ($30; rated Everyone) is a gimmicky monster-battling game. Players enter a tournament on an island, pitting teams of up to six monsters against computer-controlled critters or other players' beasties. Each monster has two attacks with a limited number of uses. Players can intervene with tools and items to boost monsters' capabilities or hinder the other side. Between battles, players can edit and arrange their team of monsters, buy and sell items and attempt to capture new creatures using the DSi camera. But snapping a picture is prone to repeat results.

Apple's stock increases In 2002, I had $2,300 to buy my first laptop or invest. I chose an Apple PowerBook G4 867 Titanium that lasted about 3 1/2 years. Both hinges on it snapped, the paint flaked and it eventually ceased to function. Had I invested the money in Apple stock instead, according to current values, I would have $72,000. Ouch. So if you are masochistic and want to see what you could have done with your cash instead of taking home that shiny new Apple gadget, check out Kyle Conroy's What If I Had Bought Apple Stock Instead?
