Short circuits: What's new and noteworthy
New and noteworthy experiences among DVDs, video games, gadgets and the Web.
DVD
Jolie goes wild A ludicrous but somehow credible spy thriller starring Angelina Jolie, "Salt" delivers a swift kick in the pants. Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, who might be a Russian mole in the CIA. When a defector blows her cover -- or does he? -- Salt takes it on the move, leading fellow agents (Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor) on a breakneck chase from Washington to New York and finally to the White House, where she blows through squads of Secret Service agents. It has all the makings of a sleek political thriller on par with such greats as "Three Days of the Condor" and "The Manchurian Candidate." But the preposterous demolition-derby action puts it squarely in the "Die Hard" camp. The DVD and Blu-ray (Sony, $29-$35) include unrated extended cuts, filmmaker commentary and a radio interview with director Phillip Noyce.
