Shibrowski's shutout earns Big Ten hockey's Second Star + VIDEO

Michael Shibrowski's standout night continues to attract accolades. The Gophers senior backup goaltender was named one of Big Ten hockey's Three Stars on Tuesday.

Shibrowski shut out Minnesota State 3-0 on Saturday night in just his third career start. He made 25 saves in his first start in over a year and first appearance since January 2013.

Shibrowski credited his performance to his teammates.

"You can't say enough about the bond we have in [the locker room]," Shibrowski said. "Throughout the game, I can't tell you how many guys were stepping up blocking shots and doing everything they can to help me. That probably means the most to me, is that they're out there to help me. So my main focus was to be there for them, too."

Wisconsin junior goaltender Joel Rumpel was the Big Ten's First Star, Shibrowski was the Second Star, and Ohio State's freshman goaltender was the Third Star.

• The Gophers retained the No. 1 ranking for a fifth straight week. They swept Minnesota State over the weekend, 4-1 and 3-0.

This Gophers upcoming opponent, Minnesota-Duluth, also climbed a spot to No. 19.

• Despite the end to their record-breaking 62-game winning streak, Gophers women's hockey held onto the No. 1 ranking. Their streak atop the polls now extends to 32 straight weeks, dating back to March 19, 2012.

They split last weekend's home series with No. 4-ranked North Dakota, winning 6-1 on Saturday and losing 3-2 on Sunday.
