Sheryl Crow is coming to Cottage Grove.

The Grammy-winning pop-turned-country star will perform Dec. 14 at the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train benefit event, city officials announced Tuesday.

She'll be joined by Take 6, one of the country's best-known gospel groups and multiple Grammy winners themselves. They have performed with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles and Al Jarreau since debuting in 1987.

"We are thrilled to be performing with Sheryl Crow, whom we've admired and followed for years. It is particularly special because of the worthy cause this event is serving," Claude McKnight, a founding member of Take 6, said in a news release.

Since 1999, Canadian Pacific has raised nearly $7.4 million and donated about 3 million pounds of food to food banks in the United States and Canada through the Holiday Train program, according to the rail company's website.

This year the program's three-week journey includes stops in eight Midwest and Northeast states, including 26 cities in Minnesota. The Cottage Grove event will be Dec. 14 at the Cottage Grove Rail Yard, 9250 Ideal Av.

"When I learned Sheryl Crow would headline the free concert, I knew this was going to be the biggest event we've ever had in Cottage Grove," Mayor Myron Bailey said in a statement.

"I am very excited to welcome everyone — from our community to the Upper Midwest and beyond — to this once-in-a-lifetime event."

The concert is free to the public, though donations are encouraged. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Friends in Need Food Shelf in St. Paul Park. For more information, visit www.cpr.ca/en/in-your-community/holiday-train.
