With the rink at Shakopee Ice Arena getting more business than it can handle, the city is considering plans to build a new two-rink arena, along with updates to the existing Shakopee Community Center.

Mayor Brad Tabke is leading the effort, but whether residents would back the project is an open question. Three referendum requests that proposed creating community center updates, including a pool and another ice sheet, have failed since 1999.

The council is still pondering what amenities might be added to the community center.
