Seth Avett and Jessica Lea Mayfield

7:30 p.m. • Fitzgerald Theater • $42.50-$47.50

Seth Avett didn’t go looking for a new musical partner besides his brother Scott, but he did find someone very suitable for his latest project: Jessica Lea Mayfield, with whom he put together a tribute album to late indie-folk cult hero Elliott Smith. The Avett Brothers co-leader and the Ohioan twang-rock singer capture the bittersweet tones and lush harmonies in Smith’s work throughout the inspired but sometimes too perky collection, titled “Seth Avett and Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Elliott Smith.” They’re stopping here halfway through a 13-city tour. Tycho

8:30 p.m. • First Avenue • 18-plus • $20

Tycho is the musical moniker of Scott Hansen, a San Franciscan artist also known for his design work under the name ISO50. A decade ago, he weaned himself from the freelance design world to concentrate more on Tycho, the ambient project where he sculpts down-tempo electronic dream-pop and paints it with tones of nostalgia and nature. For 2014’s “Awake,” he wanted to capture the rhythmic verve that a full band brought to the Tycho live show, so he recruited drummer Rory O’Connor and guitarist/bassist Zac Brown and hit the studio. “This is, in many ways, the first true Tycho record,” Hansen said of “Awake” in a press release.
