The Dakota County Sheriff's Office is becoming the latest in the state to enlist senior citizens to fight back against the scams that target them. The county will join the state's chapter of TRIAD, a nonprofit networking group that links seniors to law enforcement and community services. The plan is to launch the program this fall.

TRIAD meetings can be as simple as a coffee social or involve a larger gathering with a speaker. Members also get quarterly newsletters with tips on burglary prevention, how to identify scammers and even recipes. As that suggests, TRIAD involves more than crime prevention. In Dakota County, winter driving and wellness also will be among future topics of discussion. For more on TRIAD: tinyurl.com/olnfosa.
