A 19-month-old boy has died from injuries suffered when the family's minivan was struck by a semitrailer truck at a central Minnesota intersection, authorities said Tuesday.
Colton J. Walz, of Cold Spring, Minn., died Monday at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale from head and neck injuries, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said.
The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Stearns County at Hwy. 23 and County Road 71 near Richmond, Minn., the examiner's office added.
The semi was eastbound on Hwy. 23 when it hit the northbound van, the patrol said. The intersection is controlled by a traffic signal. Authorities have yet to say which driver might have been responsible for the collision.
The van's driver, Joseph G. Walz, 23, survived his injuries, according to the State Patrol. Passenger Callie Walz, 3, was not hurt.
The semi's driver, 61-year-old Jeffrey M. Ditlefsen, of Sartell, Minn., also was not hurt.
All the occupants in both vehicles were in their proper seat restraints, according to the patrol.
