Seantrel Henderson to play for U of Miami

It is confirmed.

July 9, 2010 at 10:52PM

The New York Times is reporting Cretin-Derham Hall star offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson, who was recently released from his National Letter of Intent with USC, will play for the University of Miami. The report says the news was confirmed by Seantrel and his father, Sean.

We are working to confirm the report; the Henderson family has been tight-lipped in recent weeks. It was widely believed, though, that Henderson would wind up at Miami.

UPDATE: Seantrel Henderson's Facebook page now has a Hurricanes logo as his profile picture and he wrote, "It's all about the 'U'!" on his Facebook wall Friday afternoon.

SECOND UPDATE (5:45 p.m.): Just heard from Sean Henderson, who confirmed that Miami is Seantrel's destination. "It was the severity of the sanctions at USC, and Miami was Seantrel's next school in line," Sean Henderson said, referring to NCAA penalties levied against USC in June that led to Seantrel's release. "Had we had more time with Miami earlier in the process, I think it would have been a more difficult decision (initially)." Sean Henderson said that while the official paperwork is not yet complete, his son is slated to arrive at Miami on Aug. 3 and that he will be immediately academically eligible for the 2010 season.
