Just a couple of days ago, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said running back Marshawn Lynch would play against the Vikings and likely receive a full workload. But Friday night, the Seahawks declared him out for Sunday.
According to ESPN.com, Lynch felt he wasn't ready to play after working out Friday. Lynch had practiced every day this week and was listed as questionable on the injury report.
It's obviously a setback for the Seahawks. Vikings running back Adrian Peterson this week declared Lynch the second-best back in the NFL.
Lynch, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, has missed Seattle's past seven games following hernia surgery. He had rushed for 417 yards and three touchdowns in seven games played before the surgery.
Lynch did not play in Seattle's 38-7 victory at TCF Bank Stadium last month. Thomas Rawls ran for 101 yards and a touchdown in his absence. Rawls suffered a season-ending ankle injury the following week.
Since then, the Seahawks have relied on Bryce Brown and Christine Michael to carry the load without changing their rushing attack much.
Michael, who will likely start in place of Lynch, rushed for 102 yards in Seattle's 36-6 victory at Arizona last weekend. Brown added a touchdown.
