Senate education panel to visit

The Osseo School District will host the 15-member state Senate Education Committee from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday at Edgewood Elementary School, 6601 Xylon Av. N., Brooklyn Park.

During the event, Senate members and residents will learn more about science, technology and math programs at schools throughout the district. Senate Education Committee members will share information on issues related to education funding during the upcoming legislative session.

ROBBINSDALE

Registration night is Monday

Eighth-grade students and their parents in the Robbinsdale School District are invited to the district's Family Registration Night at 7 p.m. Monday at the high school where they intend to enroll: Armstrong High at 10635 36th Av. N. in Plymouth, or Cooper High at 8230 47th Av. N. in New Hope.

The event is intended to help students and their families understand the registration process. Teachers, principals, counselors and other staff members will answer questions and describe course offerings.

HOPKINS, MINNETONKA & ST. LOUIS PARK

English language tutors sought

Adult Options In Education is seeking volunteers to tutor adults in English language skills or with GED preparation. The program is an adult education consortium run by the Hopkins, Minnetonka and St. Louis Park school districts' community education departments.

Training is provided, and volunteers can tutor in Minnetonka, Hopkins or St. Louis Park. Volunteers are needed for weekday and evening classes at all three sites and for Saturday mornings in Hopkins.

The program also needs a volunteer to facilitate an English language conversation circle from noon to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Eisenhower Community Center, 1001 Hwy. 7, Hopkins.

In St. Louis Park, Adult Options needs volunteers on Thursday evenings in the GED lab at Central Community Center, 6300 Walker St. At Minnetonka's Deephaven Education Center, volunteers are needed to work with beginning English language learner, or ELL, students on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. It's located at 4584 Vine Hill Road, Excelsior.
