Blues strike late to tie Stars before Backes settles shootout

– David Backes' goal in the ninth round of a shootout lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.

Alexander Steen and Robby Fabbri scored in regulation and Jake Allen made 22 saves for the Blues, who earned their second win over the Stars this season. Tyler Seguin and Colton Sceviour scored in regulation and Antti Niemi stopped 35 shots for the Central Division-leading Stars, who had won three straight overall.

Fabbri tied the score at 2-2 with 1:50 left in regulation with his eighth goal of the season and third in three games, on a shot from the slot after a pass from Jay Bouwmeester behind the Stars' net.

•ON THE RISE: Detroit moved into a tie atop the Atlantic Division with a 3-2 victory at Nashville.

•ROCKIN' VS. REELING: The host Capitals won their seventh in a row, 3-1 over the slumping Canadiens.

•KINGS OF OVERTIME: Anze Kopitar scored 36 seconds into overtime to lift the Kings over the Coyotes 4-3.

•HANSEN DELIVERS: Jannik Hansen scored twice, including in overtime, as the Canucks beat the Oilers 2-1.
