Heels fight back

Sam Howell threw for program records of 550 yards and six touchdowns, and ran for the go-ahead TD with 4:11 left to help North Carolina edge visiting Wake Forest 59-53 on Saturday. The 21-point second-half comeback by the Tar Heels (6-2, 6-2 ACC), tied the program record for biggest comeback in a win. UNC finished with a school-record 742 yards; coach Mack Brown called it "one of the best offensive performances that I've ever been around." Sam Hartman threw for four touchdowns for the Demon Deacons (4-3, 3-3).

Emotional win

Host Kentucky marked the Thursday death of offensive line coach John Schlarman of cancer by initially lining up with just 10 men against Vanderbilt and taking a delay-of-game penalty (declined), just before left tackle Landon Young came on the field wearing No. 65, worn by Schlarman while playing for Kentucky in the mid-1990s. "It was so much bigger than football," Young said. The Wildcats won 38-35.

Cajuns win division

Levi Lewis passed for 252 yards and three touchdowns, No. 25 Louisiana-Lafayette gained 254 yards on the ground and clinched a third straight Sun Belt Conference West Division title with a 38-10 home victory over South Alabama. Levi Lewis passed for three touchdowns for the Ragin' Cajuns (7-1, 5-1), who have won four straight since their only loss, on a last-second field goal to Coastal Carolina. The Ragin' Cajuns outgained South Alabama 506-268 in total yards in its most lopsided win this season.
