The skinny: New Mexico is in its first bowl game since 2007 and is coming off years of turmoil. Arizona, plagued by injuries this year, is making its fourth consecutive bowl appearance for the first time in school history, all under coach Rich Rodriguez.
The stat: The Wildcats have three 500-yard rushers, Nick Wilson, Jared Baker, and Jerrard Randall, for the first time since 1991.

Brigham Young vs. Utah

The skinny: This will be BYU's final game under coach Bronco Mendenhall after 11 seasons. He's going for his 100th win before leaving to take over at Virginia. For the Utes, the first 10-win season since joining the Pac-12 in 2011 is the prize.
The stat: BYU freshman QB Tanner Mangum has thrown for 3,062 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Ohio vs. Appalachian State

The skinny: A win would give Ohio its highest victory total since 2012. Three-time FCS champion Appalachian State is seeking to make its first FBS bowl trip a successful one.
The stat: This is the 35th bowl game for Ohio coach Frank Solich as a player or coach.

San Jose State vs. Georgia State

The skinny: Georgia State won four straight and five of its last seven to secure the program's first bowl appearance in just its sixth year of existence. San Jose State lost three of its last four games.
The stat: Georgia State had a combined record of 2-33 from 2012-14.

The skinny: Louisiana Tech seeks a second straight bowl victory. Arkansas State aims for its third bowl victory in four seasons.
The stat: Louisiana Tech senior RB Kenneth Dixon has 83 career TDs, tied with Wisconsin's Montee Ball (2009-12) for second-most all-time in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. Only Navy's Keenan Reynolds (2012-present) has more, with 85.
