Sarah Potomak's second goal of the game, with 6 minutes, 40 seconds left, gave the Gophers a 4-3 victory over Minnesota Duluth in a WCHA women's hockey game at Ridder Arena. It came on a rebound and broke a 3-all tie.

The No. 3 Gophers (4-1-0, 2-1-0 WCHA) outshot No. 4 UMD 35-23 but fell behind 1-0 when Sydney Brodt of the Bulldogs scored 4:25 into the game.

The Gophers took a 2-1 lead later in the opening period on goals by Patti Marshall and Lindsay Agnew, two freshmen. Marshall's goal came on a power play as did all three goals scored in the middle period, which ended tied 3-3.

Jalyn Elmes and Ashleigh Brykaliuk of UMD (3-1-1, 2-1-0) got the first and third goals of the second period. In between, Potomak scored her first of the game for the Gophers. The 5-5 Potomak, the national rookie of the year last season, is off to a fast start as a sophomore with three goals and four assists in five games. She is from Aldergrove, British Columbia.

The Bulldogs got a power play with 1:48 left in the final period but couldn't capitalize.

Sydney Peters made 20 saves for the Gophers, Maddie Rooney 32 for the Bulldogs.
