Sara Groenewegen tosses no-hitter in Gophers' softball victory over Purdue

April 29, 2017 at 2:18AM

Senior righthander Sara Groenewegen threw her seventh career no-hitter and struck out 12 as the No. 4 Gophers routed Purdue 8-0 in five innings in Big Ten softball Friday at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.

Sam Macken had two solo homers for the Gophers (46-3, 17-1 Big Ten). Her second leading off the fifth ended the game because of the eight-run rule. The Gophers have won 17 games in a row.

• Sunday's game in this series has been moved to Saturday because of impending unfavorable weather conditions. The first game Saturday will start at noon and the second game will begin at 3 p.m. or 60 minutes after the conclusion of game one (whichever is later).

Because both games were sold out, Saturday's tickets will be honored for game one and Sunday's tickets for game two.

Senior Day ceremonies will take place before the first game, which will be on the Big Ten Network; game two can be streamed on BTN Plus.
