Sales & events

Sales & events Get ready to go out, shop and eat Thursday night for Girls' Night Out in Uptown. From 4 to 9 p.m., troll through the district for deals at almost every locally owned store. At Ivy (1440 W. Lake St.), Q Boutique (1404 W. Lake) and Covered (1201 Lagoon Av.), get 20 percent off nearly everything. At Status (1203 Lagoon), you can take 50 percent off all women's shoes. Many stores will offer free drinks.

While you're strolling the area, take a look at the windows; they were decorated by students from the University of Minnesota's retail management program as part of Paint the Uptown Red Window Competition for the Go Red for Women campaign, which raises awareness about women and heart health. Vote for your favorite window at www.uptownminneapolis.com through Friday.

Through March 8, stop by Neiman Marcus for the Beauty Event. With any cosmetics/fragrance purchase of $100, get a (cute!) spring tote filled with samples you actually can use. Valentino's new perfume ($80 for 1.7 ounces), available exclusively at Neiman Marcus, might be a good place to start.

Shoe lovers have another option for tonight. Head to Bloomington for the Hello Stiletto launch party (6:30 to 9 p.m.) at DSW Shoes at the Mall of America. Enjoy shoe shopping, music, snacks and a walk-off with KSTP news anchor Cyndy Brucato. Register online at www.tinyurl.com/cjdet5.

STYLE STARS: MINNESOTANS TAKE FASHION WEEK

Mardi Larson, Minneapolis, head of the consumer public relations team for Payless

Spotted at: Lela Rose ( Larson is at left, pictured with the designer, right, and her daughter Rosie).

Favorite fashion week moment:

The shoes! My favorite look for Lela was a gown in the same fabric that Lela was wearing. It's casual, sporty elegance. For Christian, I loved the shoes -- they were amazing, aligned with the overall collection and very creative. My favorite was a shoe with chains!

Janell Hickman, intern at Victoria's Secret, graduate of Hopkins High School

Spotted at: Diane von Furstenberg.

Favorite fashion week moment: "Seeing Diane von Furstenberg greet Diana Ross at the end of the show. My favorite look was an oversized pompom bag with the whimsical hats."

Robyne Robinson, news anchor at Fox 9 and jewelry designer

Spotted at: BCBG and Lacoste.

Favorite fashion week moment: "I showed Kellie Pickler my jewelry and she squealed. I also traded cards with Kenley and Stella from "Project Runway." I liked the Lacoste show. The use of materials was soft, playful and casual."
