• There are more than 8 million RVs in the United States, ranging from $16,000 units that mount on pickup trucks to $800,000 luxury models. About one in 12 U.S. vehicle-owning households has an RV.

• On average, RVers travel 4,500 miles annually on excursions that total 28 to 35 days.

• The typical RV owner is 49, married, owns a home and has an annual household income of $68,000.

• Among celebrities who are RV fans: actors Matthew McConaughey and Shia LeBoeuf, former Twins pitcher Jim Kaat, NASCAR star Jeff Gordon ("My RV is the only place where I can find some peace and quiet"), singer Dolly Parton and politicians of every stripe. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas once said that "being an RVer helps me do my job better," and Barack Obama loaded up his family in an RV for a long trek after the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
