Rumors, competition and the like

Brewster to open QB job to competition this spring

December 10, 2009 at 1:06AM

Greetings.

Just a quick note between writing my football story for tomorrow and covering the Gophers women's basketball game:

After the Gophers first pre-bowl practice, coach Tim Brewster reiterated that he is not a candidate at Kansas -- or any other school, for that matter -- and said he hadn't contacted Kansas about the position.

He also said that MarQueis Gray will play extensively at wide receiver in the bowl. But, come spring practice, the starting quarterback job will be up for competition between Adam Weber and Gray.

I wrote more about it for tomorrow's paper, but Gray is excited about the upcoming competition and Weber welcomes it.

Couple other quickies: Mike Rallis (leg) and Xzavian Brandon (knee) both practiced for the first time Wednesday.

That's about it. Have a good night.
