Rougned Odor's Rangers contract includes pair of horses

When the Texas Rangers and star second baseman Rougned Odor reached an impasse on a contract extension, managing partner Ray Davis got creative and said he'd be willing to throw a pair of quarter horses into the deal.

Odor accepted.

The horses are a mare named Smokey and her 2-week old foal.

As for the money, Odor got $49.5 million for six years. The deal can go to $60 million if the Rangers pick up the $13.5 million option for 2023.

"It was a fun negotiation," General Manager Jon Daniels said.

Davis raises quarter horses and has often talked about horses with Odor.

Odor plans to build a ranch in north Texas and move his parents and little sister out of the troubled environment that is modern-day Venezuela with its crippling economic hardships and its violent crime.

Odor hit .271 with 33 home runs and 88 RBI last year.
