Opening: “Chocolate City” (⋆½, rated R) is a black riff on a certain stripper movie smash. “Magic Mike ain’t got nothing on you,” someone tells Michael (Robert Ri’chard of “Coach Carter”). A college student without the cash to take on a girlfriend (Imani Hakim) or help his widowed mom (Vivica A. Fox), he joins the dance crew at Chocolate City. This being a black comedy shot in Tyler Perrytown (Atlanta), there’s a scolding from the preacher. Writer-director Jean-Claude La Marre plays that hip man of the cloth, dropping cracks about Chris Brown and the stoner comedy “Friday” into his sermons. But he’s the highlight of his movie.
