Responses to Sen. John McCain's announcement that he will halt campaigning until a solution to the financial crisis is reached and that he wants to postpone Friday's debate:
Coleman campaign: Spokesman Luke Friedrich said that Republican Sen. Norm Coleman's campaign would continue but that the senator would stay in Washington until an agreement on the financial crisis is reached. "This is the top priority right now," Friedrich said.
Franken campaign: Andy Barr, spokesman for Democrat Al Franken, said the campaign will move forward. "There is no more important time to give voters a chance to understand their choices," Barr said.
Barkley campaign: Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley said he believed Coleman and other senators should stay at the Capitol until agreement is reached. "Congress has been asleep at the switch for six to eight years now," Barkley said.
Bachmann's office: Michelle Presson, chief of staff for Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, said McCain's decision is understandable, given the travel demands of a nationwide campaign. " It's different for us," she said.
Klobuchar: "I think it makes no sense," Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat, said about calls to delay the presidential debate. "As Senator Obama put it, a president has to do more than one thing at once. ... I think more than anything you want a debate at this time."
