Week 12 of the Page 2 Fantasy Football Challenge is upon us. Each week, a guest picker chooses a QB, RB and WR. The only players off-limits are those selected by the previous week’s guest picker. The guest — Wade Anderson (@gadfly2727 on Twitter), who says his claim to Internet fame is being the unofficial historian for The Sportive podcast — will go head-to-head against Star Tribune writer Michael Rand, who is not allowed to pick anyone projected to score in the top 10 at their respective positions by NFL.com.

wade anderson’S WEEK 12 FANTASY PICKS

QB: Peyton Manning, Broncos

NFL.com QB projection: No. 3

Matchup: Dolphins

Manning goes against Miami this weekend, and I like his odds even though the Dolphins allow the second-fewest passing yards per game in the NFL. Manning also has a solid forehead game and says “Omaha” a lot, which is my favorite Counting Crows song.

RB: Matt Forte, Bears

NFL.com RB projection: No. 2

Matchup: Buccaneers

Forte looked good against the Vikings last week, although that may say more about Minnesota than anything else. Darrin Nelson would probably look pretty good against the Vikings these days.

WR: Jordy Nelson, Packers

NFL.com WR projection: No. 1

Matchup: Vikings

I know, guys. I KNOW. I don’t feel good about it. But you get it, right?

QB: Jay Cutler, Bears

NFL.com QB projection: No. 11

Matchup: Buccaneers

Cutler has been an enigma this season, much as he’s been his entire career. But the raw numbers, as usual, are pretty good — particularly when it comes to fantasy football. He’s topped 21 points five times (and 16 three other times). I’m hoping he smokes a ragged Bucs pass defense.

RB: Marshawn Lynch, Seahawks

NFL.com RB projection: No. 12

Matchup: Cardinals

This is a roll of the dice because Lynch has had health issues and the Cardinals have a very strong run defense, but Lynch is averaging 110 yards and two TDs his past three games. I’d take that.

WR: Michael Crabtree, 49ers

NFL.com WR projection: No. 15

Matchup: Washington

I was going to pick Sammy Watkins, but the billion inches of snow in Buffalo dissuaded me. Let’s go with the safer pick in Crabtree against Washington.

Winner: Brandon Mileski— Aaron Rodgers (28.8), Le’Veon Bell (28.2), Jeremy Maclin (15.3). Total: 72.3.

Loser: Michael Rand—Ben Roethlisberger (10.5), Frank Gore (9.4), Emmanuel Sanders (16.2). Total: 36.1.

Overall standings: Guest pickers 9-2.
