RandBall: Ervin Santana's run of shutouts is impressive

June 12, 2017 at 5:39AM

Here are a few leftover statistics regarding Ervin Santana's third complete game shutout of the season Friday against the Giants:

• No other pitcher in the majors has more than one complete game shutout this season, and Santana has three of the 15 total thrown. In fact, no pitcher has thrown more than three shutouts in a season since Felix Hernandez tossed five of them for the Mariners in 2012.

• Santana has allowed a total of seven hits during his three shutouts — a one-hitter, two-hitter and Friday's four-hitter. Perhaps the most impressive part of the most recent blanking is he needed just 91 pitches to do it.

• Santana also threw a shutout last season for the Twins, but no other Minnesota pitcher has thrown a complete-game shutout since 2013. Bonus points if you already knew the identity of that pitcher: Andrew Albers.
