The Twins received a decent outing from Phil Hughes on Sunday (six innings pitched, three earned runs, the bare minimum for a “quality start”). Big-picture, though, the team’s starting pitching — small sample size, but still — remains a massive problem yet again. Minnesota entered Sunday with the worst ERA from its starters in all of the majors (7.11) after also being at the very bottom in 2014 with a 5.06 ERA.
Ervin Santana’s suspension for failing a drug test was a blow, and the remaining starters haven’t come close, as a group, to picking up the slack.
