Rand: Twins starting pitching still a problem

April 13, 2015 at 8:48AM

The Twins received a decent outing from Phil Hughes on Sunday (six innings pitched, three earned runs, the bare minimum for a "quality start"). Big-picture, though, the team's starting pitching — small sample size, but still — remains a massive problem yet again. Minnesota entered Sunday with the worst ERA from its starters in all of the majors (7.11) after also being at the very bottom in 2014 with a 5.06 ERA.

Ervin Santana's suspension for failing a drug test was a blow, and the remaining starters haven't come close, as a group, to picking up the slack.

OLD WOUND The Wolves' official Twitter account tweeted Saturday, "Okay, Steph Curry ... we get it. You can be the MVP." What could have been.

DECENT CHANCE Hockey Reference gives the Wild a 6.2 percent chance of winning the Stanley Cup, the third-best number in the West.
