Raiders name draft expert Mike Mayock as their new general manager

Oakland coach Jon Gruden found another former television analyst to help him on his Raiders rebuild.

The Raiders hired former NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock as their new general manager on Monday.

"For the last 15 years, I think I've tried to be the GM for all 32 teams," Mayock said. "I've been in all 32 buildings for the last 15 years. I know what it looks like, I know what it smells like. I just need a little help with the mechanics."

Gruden had been searching for a GM after the team fired Reggie McKenzie earlier in a 4-12 season, their 13th losing season in 16 years. It was an underwhelming return to the sideline for Gruden, who got a 10-year, $100 million contract to return to Oakland after spending nine seasons as an analyst at ESPN.

Mayock was widely respected as a draft analyst since 2006 but now will be responsible for helping to make picks. He has no experience in an NFL front office but will work with Gruden on upgrading a scouting and personnel department that struggled to find impact players in recent years.

The Raiders will have three first-round picks in April's draft: its own pick at No. 4, plus the picks of playoff-bound Chicago and Dallas after Oakland traded away stars Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper.

Foles gets nod again

For the second year in a row, Nick Foles will lead Philadelphia into the playoffs.

Coach Doug Pederson said Foles is "feeling good" after suffering a chest injury and will start when the Eagles visit Chicago on Sunday.

Pederson said Nate Sudfeld is the backup as of now and couldn't provide an update on Carson Wentz's back injury. He wouldn't commit to starting Foles if the Eagles advance.

Foles is 6-0 in must-win games filling in for Wentz the past two seasons, including 3-0 in the playoffs. Foles earned Super Bowl MVP honors in a 41-33 victory over New England at U.S. Bank Stadium in February.
