Dawson is a Class 2A two-time state medalist in girls’ track and field as a member of the Eagles’ 4x100-meter relay team. The sprinter/jumper also served as a captain for the soccer team. Here is a closer look at Dawson, who is headed to Tufts University in Medford, Mass.

 

Q: What is the best movie you’ve seen in the last year?

A: “Unbroken.”

 

Q: What are your three favorite apps?

A: Twitter, Snapchat and Shazam.

 

Q: Who do you like to follow the most on Twitter, and why?

A: @freekyfrekot because she’s a hoot.

 

Q: At your first varsity practice, you felt …

A: … very intimidated. I was a confused freshman thrown into a group of experienced upperclassmen, but they pushed me to improve.

 

Q: What did you work on most before your senior season?

A: I focused on the high jump, and improving my speed and strength.

 

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete?

A: Placing second in the Class 2A state meet in the 4x100 relay in 2012.

 

Q: How do you balance school and sports during the year?

A: Having a rigid schedule helps ensure I get my work done, but it’s definitely tiring.

 

Q: Do you have a secret talent — and if so, what is it?

A: I can juggle, and make a mean frozen pizza.

 

Q: What is the best sports advice you ever received?

A: The best sports advice I’ve ever received came from former Apple Valley coach Geri Dirth. She always said that as long as you went out, tried your hardest and performed your best, then it was a day well spent.
