Metcalfe has never played in the Class 2A boys’ tennis state tournament. He would like nothing better than to finish his prep career with a trip to the event with doubles partner Matthew Little.

A: ... generous, emphatic and confident.
Q: At your first varsity practice, you felt …
A: … confident. I had a rather large false sense of self-worth.
Q: What did you work on most prior to the season?
A: Trying to perfect the “tweener” a la Roger Federer.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete?
A: A St. Thomas Academy opponent swore at me and tried to fight me during the Class 2A, Section 3 quarterfinals last year.
Q: If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be?
A: Free admission to all sporting events for students.
Q: Name one sport you wish you could play that you don’t?
A: Volleyball. The possibility of wearing spandex entices me.
Q: How do you balance school and sports during the year?
A: School gets my undivided attention from 7:25 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Tennis gets the rest.

A: “You shouldn’t care what your opponents think of you.”
