Woman hit and killed by Green Line train
A woman crossing University Avenue in St. Paul’s Midway area was struck and killed Thursday by a Green Line Train, authorities said.
She was passing through a crosswalk at Albert Street and University when she was hit by an eastbound train around 11:15 a.m., said Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla. Her identity has not been released.
Bells were sounding and lights were flashing at the time of the incident, Padilla said.
Girl, 13, arrested after school staffer punched
A 13-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday for allegedly punching a staff member in the face at Journeys, a St. Paul Public Schools special education program for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. The education assistant was not injured, a school district spokeswoman said, and was back at work Thursday.
Officers were called to the school at 90 S. Western Av., on a report that a student had assaulted a staff member, a police report read. The girl was arrested and booked at the Ramsey County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of fourth-degree assault, theft, disorderly conduct and terroristic threats.
Abduction scare was man looking for his hat
Bloomington police have identified the suspect in Wednesday’s attempted child abduction as an elderly man who was just looking for his lost hat.
Parents were warned of a potential kidnapping attempt after a child was approached by a man near the bus stop at 99th Street and Rich Road on Wednesday. Police later determined that the man, who lives nearby, had been out walking earlier in the day and misplaced his hat. He drove the same route asking people if they’d seen it. When contacted by police, the man was apologetic and said he understood the concern he caused. He will not face any charges.
Merrifield man killed in snowmobile crash
A man from Merrifield, in central Minnesota’s Crow Wing County, was killed last week when he lost control of his snowmobile and crashed into a tree on his property.
Authorities responded to the 1100 block of Half Moon Drive last Friday afternoon. Richard D. Rathman, 49, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he died the next day of head injuries.
