MADISON, Wis. — A group of protesters is accusing Wisconsin wildlife officials of mismanaging the state's wolf hunt.
Protesters accuse state of mismanaging wolf hunt, violating United Nations nature charter
About a dozen protesters affiliated with the Wolf and Wildlife Action Group converged on the Capitol's steps Monday holding rusty leg traps and photos of injured wolves. They complained the Department of Natural Resources allowed hunters to go above the statewide kill limit this year. They also insisted trapping wolves and hunting them with dogs is inhumane.
The group marched to Gov. Scott Walker's office. A police officer wouldn't let them in but a staffer emerged and listened to the group's complaints. They handed him papers alleging the wolf hunt violates the U.N. nature charter. They left without incident.
A Walker spokeswoman referred questions to the DNR. An agency spokesman declined to comment.
