Police in Prior Lake and Savage are trying to find out who has been shooting out windows of parked cars near the cities' border this month, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Prior Lake Police Chief Mark Elliott said up to 21 car windows have been shot out with BB guns, pellet guns or slingshots. Elliott said the incidents, estimated to have caused up to $10,000 in damages, occurred near Hwy. 13 and 150th Street. No one has been injured, he said.
Savage police are also investigating similar reports not far from that area and are working with Prior Lake and other Scott County authorities.
Elliott said the incidents have all happened at night and suspects have yet to be spotted. One resident reported hearing a loud muffler in a neighborhood during one of the incidents, he said. Elliott asked residents to call police as soon as they notice anything suspicious.
"Calling us the morning after doesn't allow us to follow up," he said.
Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate said such cases can be very difficult to solve. So far, he said, the vandal or vandals who have hit Savage and Prior Lake haven't ventured into Shakopee.
"Let's not kid ourselves: There's luck here involved," Tate said. "They can do a lot of damage in a couple hours."
