Prior Lake's girls' lacrosse team earned its initial trip to the state tournament with a 12-10 victory over Eastview in the Section 3 championship. The state tournament runs through Saturday at Minnetonka High School.

Prior Lake also defeated Eastview 15-6 during the regular season. The team is coached by Ali Minelli, who is in her fourth season.

"It has been a pretty awesome journey for us to experience the drastic difference that a matter of four years of hard work, and dedication can bring," Minelli said.

Junior attacker Aleah Fjelstad paced the Lakers with four goals in the section final, bringing her season total to 34. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Pierson added three goals. She has 26 tallies for the year.

Leading scorer and junior attacker Ashley Norberg didn't have a goal against the Lightning, but had three assists. She has 45 goals and 30 assists on the season.

Senior Shelby Will started all 16 games in goal for the Lakers, who entered the state tournament with a 14-2 record.

All-tourney accolades

Three members of Class 3A softball champion Eastview were named the all-tournament team. They were right fielder Sam Gall, pitcher Kerrigan Hoshaw and second baseman Abby Lien.

Hoshaw is the only senior in the group. Gall is a junior while Lien is a freshman.

Hoshaw was the winning pitcher in all three games. She beat Buffalo 7-1, Maple Grove 1-0 and Anoka 2-1. She only allowed 10 hits while striking out 24 and walking two in the three games.

It was Eastview's second state championship. The other came in 2003.

Top performances

• Eagan senior Sam Zenner sprinted to the Class 2A boys' track state meet 100-meter title and ran the anchor leg on the Wildcats' winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams. The 4x100 team set the state record with a time of 41.52 seconds.

• Senior attacker Roman Rohrbach scored five goals to lead Lakeville North to a 10-2 victory over Lakeville South in the Section 1 boys' lacrosse championship and its second consecutive trip to the state tournament.
