A middle school principal in the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District will serve as a school board member in the neighboring South Washington County District.
The board recently chose Joseph Slavin, principal of Skyview Middle School in Oakdale, to fill out the two-year term of Laurie Johnson, which expires Dec. 31. Johnson had announced she was moving to Arizona.
Slavin, of Woodbury, was a candidate for a board vacancy a year ago; that seat went to someone else. The board decided to name him to this seat "in the interest of efficiency because it recently vetted potential candidates and through that process" found he is highly qualified, the district said. Slavin has three school-aged children in the South Washington County District.
