Preview: Gophers basketball vs. American

November 9, 2012 at 3:17AM

Gophers at a glance: After two exhibition wins, it's time to start the season. Joe Coleman has been the best early scorer by far, recording 36 points in two games. Mo Walker and Trevor Mbakwe have shown promise in their returns, but Mbakwe appears to still be favoring his left leg. Turnovers have once again proven to be a problem early.

American at a glance: The Eagles return nine players, including three starters, from a team that went 20-12 overall and 10-4 in Patriot League play and add a former player -- Stephen Lumpkins -- who took last year off to play professional baseball in the Kansas City Royals organization. Center Toby Wroblicky can be dangerous in the paint.

The Gophers played with more urgency, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from another conference sweep, and they lost LJ Mooney to injury in the process.
