      Abortion ban looms large in Wisconsin and the Dakotas

      Wisconsin has a law that bans abortion on the books dating back to 1849. For nearly a half century, a woman's right to an abortion held firm after Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973, so the new ruling sparked deep feelings of anger and rejoice on both sides.

      The Supreme Court has ended the nation's constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place nearly 50 years in a decision by its conservative majority to overturn Roe v. Wade. The outcome is expected to lead to abortion bans in roughly half the states.
