Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was a little nervous before Saturday's season open game. She knew her team would come out with some high intensity. She just hoped that her team, which waited a week longer than most teams to start their WNBA season, might be a little out of control.

She need not have worried.

Playing a pretty good Connecticut team that was playing on the second night of a back-to-back, the Lynx matched their intensity with efficiency. The result was a very one-sided 90-74 victory that would have been bigger had Reeve not emptied out the bench early in the fourth quarter.

"I told the team that was a great start to the 2013 journey," Reeve said.

The Lynx had 24 assists and just 10 turnovers. They shot 50 percent. They out-rebounded a Sun team that had beat them up on the boards in the final preseason game.

Here are some impressions following the game:

--Janel McCarville, in her return to Minnesota, in her first WNBA game since the 2010 season, didn't take a shot tonight. But she impacted the game. Limited to 20 minutes as she works back into shape, McCarville showed nice passing touch from the high post. She had three rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks. And she's only going to get better.

--I believe Maya Moore is poised for a very big season. She was wonderful tonight, hitting her first five shots, scoring 11 points before the game was 11 minutes old. At times she just dominated the game, with seven rebounds, five assists and a steal.

--Seimone Augustus wasn't far behind, hitting nine of 13 shots on the way to 20 points.

--It was very important for Monica Wright to come out strong, given her enhanced role off the bench this season. Wright, who played both guard positions tonight, scored nine points, had six rebounds and a team-high five assists. She also had two steals.

--I believe it's going to take a while before rookies Rachel Jarry, Lindsey Moore and Sugar Rodgers start making meaningful contributions. Jarry entered the game late in the third quarter, quickly took – and missed – three shots, committed two fouls and wasn't seen again until the fourth quarter. Moore missed her two shots and Rodgers was 1-for-4.

--An unsung hero tonight: Devereaux Peters. She played 19 minutes and had six points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

That's about it for now. Have a good rest of your weekend.
