Here is a traffic note for commuters on the east side of the Mississippi River. Southbound Hennepin Avenue at 1st Street will close for a week starting Monday.

Traffic will be diverted right on 1st Street up to 1st Avenue, then left over to Washington Avenue, then left back to Hennepin.  First street in both directions will remain open to traffic.

Along with Hennepin, both directions of 2nd Avenue N. will be closed for two weeks between 1st and 2nd Streets.

CenterPoint Energy will be replacing natural gas lines throughout downtown this spring and summer. More road closures and lane restrictions are anticipated.

As the summer rolls on, the utility will be replacing 7,250 feet of a 20-inch diameter steel pipe on 1st and 2nd Streets and on S. 2nd Street between 3rd Avenue and I-35W.  Construction will last through August, the utility said.
