Pop music spotlight: Marina & the Diamonds

Welsh singer on her first full North American tour.

Friday: "I'm obsessed with the mess that is America," Marina Diamandis sings in her U.K. hit "Hollywood," and now she'll finally have the chance to see her obsession up close. She has Lily Allen's wit and accent, Lady Gaga's flair for outrageousness and clubby dance beats, plus a powerful voice that's part Feist and Kate Bush, but the Welsh singer doesn't yet have much U.S. notoriety. That could change by the end of her first full North American tour, timed to the stateside release of her catchy and fun if at times formulaic debut on Atlantic Records, "Family Jewels."
