A man broke into a woman's apartment in Minneapolis early Wednesday and sexually assaulted her, authorities said.

The woman got away from her assailant long enough to call 911 shortly after 4 a.m. and say a man she didn't know attacked her in her Marcy Holmes neighborhood home in the 700 block of 4th Street SE.

The woman, 21, made the call from someone else's apartment in the building while the man was still in her place, according to emergency dispatch audio.

The woman went to a nearby hospital and underwent a rape exam, said Minneapolis police spokesperson Sgt. Darcy Horn.

She described the suspect as white and in his 50s with brownish red facial hair. Also, he was wearing a red long-sleeve sweatshirt, dispatch audio disclosed.

Horn said the man forced entry into the apartment, which is located near the University of Minnesota, but did not have other details about how that occurred.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-222-TIPS.
