A 27-year-old man was found dead inside a vehicle Sunday morning following a shooting in Mankato, police said.

Officers with the Mankato Department of Public Safety responded around 9:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire near Holly Lane and found the body of a man in a car on the 1600 block of Madison Avenue.

Investigators believe the man, who was later identified as Muridi Hassan Hussein, of Mankato, drove to that area before dying from his injuries.

Authorities arrested a 23-year-old suspect shortly after the shooting and recovered a firearm. The Minnesota Star Tribune typically does not name suspects until they are charged. Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation involves multiple law enforcement agencies.
