Pick Six: Fleetwood Mac, Motorhead, JD McPherson and more

A half-dozen cool things in music, from two points of view:

Fleetwood Mac, Xcel Energy Center. Still an impressive live act. Lindsey Buckingham's fierce guitar solos and Mick Fleetwood's solid backbeat are as good as it gets.

Motorhead, "Behind the Music Remastered," VH1 Classic. One-of-a-kind band has a pretty interesting back story. Lemmy is a hero to so many hard rockers.

Bernie Leadon to play with the Eagles. An underrated part of their early history. Let's hope they can all get along.
Jay Wilcox, Robbinsdale

Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis, the Dakota. The first couple of Austin, Texas, alt-country were charming on their first joint tour after 17 years of marriage. He came across like a sleepy-eyed Vince Gill, with a dry sense of humor and a poetic way with a lyric. She sang like a honky-tonk angel. The set featured tunes from their splendid new duo CD ("Cheater's Game"), her underrated solo career and his hit songwriting career (Dixie Chicks, George Strait, Tim McGraw).

JD McPherson, First Avenue. With his punk-rock intensity and intoxicating mix of vintage-sounding rock, rockabilly, R&B and blues, he sounded more vibrant, dynamic and louder than ever. There were covers of Chuck Berry, the Jesus and Mary Chain and an old hymn plus retro-cool originals. Ray Jacildo's solos should be called "hammer time" because he pounded the piano like Jerry Lee Lewis on steroids.
