• Gophers fans weren't the only ones who witnessed a medical emergency on Saturday. According to the Associated Press, Notre Dame fan Leo Staudacher collapsed in the stands at Michigan's Big House during the second quarter of the Irish's loss, and Wolverines fans rushed to his aid. Staudacher's heart had stopped, but unnamed bystanders gave him CPR until medics arrived to administer shocks from a defibrillator that saved the 69-year-old fan's life. Staudacher watched the end of the game in the hospital -- but survived Michigan's thrilling last-second win.

• As if this week's Notre Dame-Michigan State game wasn't big enough already -- the Spartans are trying to establish themselves as the successor to Ohio State in the Leaders Division, while the Irish are desperate after an 0-2 start -- a Michigan State assistant coach has added fuel to the rivalry by wondering aloud whether the Irish steal signs on the field. "Guys are thieves, you know," defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi said, explaining that MSU has changed its signals for this week after noticing that the Irish players kept looking at their sidelines last season.
• The old truism about a two-quarterback system -- it means you have too few good quarterbacks, not too many -- is damaging Penn State's chances of a good season. After two games, Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin have been equally lousy, completing a combined 40 percent of their passes with no touchdowns. But coach Joe Paterno intends to stick with both for Saturday's game against Temple, saying he hasn't seen one separate himself from the other.
Waconia’s Max McEnelly defeated Stillwater’s Ryder Rogotzke on Friday to settle the match, just as he beat him at state in 2023.
