New England running back James White was inactive for Sunday night's game at Seattle following the death of his father, Tyrone, in South Florida.
The wreck that killed Tyrone White happened around 1 p.m. in Cooper City, Fla., the Broward County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. White, the captain of the Miami-Dade Police Department, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Miami-Dade Police Department Director Alfredo Ramirez III said on Twitter that one of the people who is being hospitalized is White's wife, Lisa. NBC reported White's mother is in serious condition.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson — White's college teammate at Wisconsin — sent condolences to James White before kickoff.
White, 28, is in his seventh season with the Patriots, playing in three Super Bowls with them. He scored three touchdowns, including the winner in overtime, in New England's 34-28 victory over Atlanta in Super Bowl LI in February 2017.
Anthem protests
Several NFL teams stayed off the field when the national anthem was played in Week 2. Besides the Vikings, other teams that chose to stay out of sight included the Packers, Jets, Bills and Dolphins.
Some players were kneeling during the national anthem as Colin Kaepernick did several years ago when he started bringing attention to social injustice, including Dallas' Dontari Poe, who did it despite playing for an owner in Jerry Jones who has been against it.
The timing of the anthem seemed to catch the Titans by surprised as they hustled to the sideline to line up. Rashaan Evans, Kenny Vaccaro and Jadeveon Clowney took a knee and Jeffery Simmons held his right fist in the air.
