Nearly 140,000 viewers watched Maryland upset UCLA in NCAA regional baseball action Monday night, ESPNU's highest-watched show of the day according to the Sports Business Journal. Yet in March no television coverage was available for the women's hockey national championship game, in which the Gophers topped Harvard in front of an Internet-only audience. You have to wonder if bean counters at ESPN will see the successful baseball and softball model this spring and apply it to other nonrevenue sports. Can't hurt, right? Numbers in this state surely would come in strong.
