Free agent linebacker Ahmad Brooks reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers.

Brooks was in Green Bay on Tuesday to visit the Packers, who need to add depth at outside linebacker behind starters Clay Matthews and Nick Perry.

The 33-year-old Brooks was released by the San Francisco 49ers last week. He is a two-time second-team All-Pro.

Matthews and Perry are nursing minor injuries, and coach Mike McCarthy has said he had no long-term concern about his starters.

But one backup, Kyler Fackrell, hasn't been productive in three preseason games, and Jayrone Elliott suffered a minor back injury last week against Denver.

Texans game canceled

The Dallas Cowboys confirmed that Thursday's preseason finale with the Houston Texans has been canceled.

The Texans had an opportunity to go home and tend to their families, so that's what they did.

The game had been moved from Houston's NRG Stadium to AT&T Stadium in Arlington because of Hurricane Harvey.

"There's more important things than football right now," Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee said. "I think Houston being able to get home and see their families is a big deal. To me, we've played in a bunch of preseason games. Right now, I'm excited that they can get home."

The next game for both teams will be their regular-season openers. The Cowboys host the New York Giants on Sept. 10. The Texans host the Jacksonville Jaguars on the same day.

Browns waive Haden

Cleveland believed the performance of cornerback Joe Haden didn't match his lucrative contract, so they cut the two-time Pro Bowl selection.

The Browns had floated Haden's name to other teams in trade talks for a while. The organization also approached Haden about accepting a pay cut, but he declined. Unable to find a trade partner or work out a restructured deal, the Browns severed ties with Haden, who has been plagued by injuries the past two seasons.

The Browns grew dissatisfied with Haden's play this summer and favored Jamar Taylor and Jason McCourty. Former Gopher Briean Boddy-Calhoun is third in the cornerback pecking order.

•The Browns traded offensive lineman Cam Erving, another of the team's first-round busts, to the Chiefs for a 2018 fifth-round draft pick.

• The Chiefs will start first-round draft pick Patrick Mahomes II at quarterback Thursday night against the Titans, resting starter Alex Smith. Mahomes is the son of former Twins pitcher Pat Mahomes.

• The Raiders signed wide receiver Seth Roberts to a two-year contract extension through 2019. Roberts played hurt last season after having a double sports hernia in training camp. He still had 39 catches for 397 yards and five TDs.

• Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict had his NFL suspension reduced from five to three games for his egregious hit on a Chiefs running back during a preseason game.
