This article about Owl City ran in Saturday's paper.

The above video is great fun to watch with your kids - lots of vintage toys - you can take a walk down memory lane. "Look, honey - that Speak n' Spell used to be considered high tech."

I often get stuck in a rut listening to my old 80's new wave favorites. And then this guy from Owatonna (who was born in the 80's) comes along with a synth paired with quirky lyrics that I'm completely drawn to.

Perhaps because it reminds me a bit of 80's.

Perhaps it's because he suffers from insomnia. That's something I also could relate to. As new parents can't we all relate to being slight insomniacs? The atmosphere is different when you are padding around the house at 3 a.m. with a newborn. It's a little surreal, a certain shade of blue, the air is kind of still but electric. That thin veil of being stuck between sleep and reality. That dreamtime essence seemed to be captured in his music.

Or maybe, in this case, it's the fireflies. I wrote about them awhile back. (I Miss Fireflies) I am wistful for them still. They were a integral part of the summers of my youth. We just don't have enough around here.

Ben now asks me over and over to play that "You would not believe your eyes" song... (the first line of the lyrics)

Whatever the reason, I just plain like it! Go ahead, and give it a spin.

Any other popular music that you listen to that crosses over well to your young ones?
