Death penalty: In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled that a death row inmate in Louisiana, Kevan Brumfield, was entitled to a hearing to determine whether he is intellectually disabled, and therefore exempt from execution.
Signs: It ruled unanimously that the town of Gilbert, Ariz., had violated the First Amendment by placing limits on the size of church service signs. The town has differing restrictions on political, ideological and directional signs.
Testimony: It also ruled unanimously that statements that children make to teachers about possible abuse can be used as evidence, even if the child does not testify in court.
