Meet the Man Bill Tamlyn, a writer and model from St. Paul, has been named One Man Minneapolis.
The "man pageant" puts the spotlight on local men while raising funds for charities. The brainchild of Scott Mayer, who created the Ivey Awards to honor the theater community, One Man Minneapolis is now in its second year.
At the Pantages Theatre on Saturday, the 20 finalists were narrowed down to the top five, who competed in a local trivia contest, an onstage interview and a physical fitness test of sorts, which involved using a yo-yo to knock bottles off stools.
Tamlyn won a $5,000 prize, half of which will go to the charity he represented, the Minnesota Reading Corps, which promotes literacy for kids. The rest will go into savings for his 10-year-old son's college education.
