On top of TV news world, KARE wins 10 regional Murrows

April 10, 2009 at 1:21AM

KARE-TV, Channel 11, was recognized Thursday with more regional Edward R. Murrow awards than any other TV station in the country.

The local NBC affiliate won in 10 categories that paid tribute to everything from the station's coverage of the Republican National Convention to reporter Boyd Huppert's writing.

KUSA in Denver received eight awards, the second-highest among TV stations.

"It's especially nice this year, with all the tough decisions we and other stations have had to make," said KARE news director Tom Lindner. "This reaffirms that quality and talent remain high here."

The Murrows, administered by the Radio-Television News Directors Association, honors excellence in electronic journalism. Other local winners include WCCO-AM, KNOW-FM and WCCO, Channel 4.

Regional winners are automatically eligible for national Murrows, which will be judged in June.
