MACAU — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming lost his first title fight on Saturday as reigning IBF flyweight champion Amnet Ruenroeng of Thailand defeated the Chinese boxer by unanimous decision.

All three ringside judges scored the bout 116-111 in Amnet's favor as the Thai fighter improved to 15-0, with 5 KOs.

Zou is the main reason why boxing is growing in popularity in China but he came up short in the biggest test so far of his short pro career. He fell to 6-1, with 1 KO.

Amnet landed more effective jabs than Zou throughout the fight and kept him at bay with his 5-inch reach advantage, successfully defending his flyweight title for the third time.

The fight was held at Cotai Arena in Macau, where Zou staged his debut in April 2012 and had won his previous six pro bouts.
